Sheesham is an erect deciduous tree belonging to the Dalbergia sissoo family; a native of India, it is also known as Shisham and Indian Rosewood. As a timber Sheesham is used in the finest veneers for cabinet making. Sheesham heartwood has a characteristic golden brown graining and the light sapwood has an ivory graining making it an attractive alternative to teak. It is an extremely durable timber and finishes well when polished. Sheesham is a fast growing species and is rotated over a 6 - 10 year period. Growth rate is typically 3.7 meters per annum |
